CLOSEST GOLF COURSES

West Lancs

Founded in 1873, this quality links course measures 6862 yards and is a real challenge in terms of the length of the holes. It’s a course of contrasts with its greens lying on plateaus and hollows, areas of safety and shelter all set amongst a sea of rough and sandy wilderness. In 1976, four young professionals competed in their final Open qualifier here – Sandy Lyle, Nick Faldo, Bernard Langer and Ian Woosnam – all four were eventual US Masters winners.

IT has hosted Open Qualifying for a number of years and has been described by Greg Norman as having the best back nine holes in Britain.
