Aberystwyth, United Kingdom

Mid-Wales – Aberystwyth

DESCRIPTION

Mid-Wales has some real hidden gems of golf courses, as well as great value accommodation. Aberystwyth is the principal holiday resort on the West Wales coast, or alternatively Borth, 6 miles up the coast, is a much smaller but characterful seaside village. Across the estuary lies Aberdyfi, a thriving little harbour resort which lies in a beautiful setting within the Snowdonia National Park. Golfwise :- The wonderful links courses of Borth & Ynyslas and Aberdovey offer great challenging golf all the year round, whereas Aberystwyth is a complete contrast, set high up on the cliffs above the town with great views across Cardigan Bay.

CLOSEST GOLF COURSES

Aberdovey

Designed by Braid and Fowler, Aberdovey Golf Club is enchantingly set within the Snowdonia National Park at the mouth of the Dovey Estuary, and the links are wedged between the Cambrian Mountain range and the stunning beach. Despite its old age, Aberdovey is not short; it will test, and has tested, the very best golfers, playing host to a number of amateur championships over the years. It was here that Ian Woosnam came to practise on firm, fast greens prior to playing in the U.S. Masters each April. The course offers a challenge from a range of tees for golfers of all abilities.

Aberystwyth

Situated above the Mid Wales coastal town, Clwb Golff Aberystwyth is blessed with stunning views over Cardigan Bay. From Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula to the Preseli Mountains in Pembrokeshire, there is hardly a comparable view from any golf course, anywhere. Aberystwyth was one of the courses designed by the legendary six times Open Champion, Harry Vardon, an all time ‘golfing great’. It is probably his most spectacular in terms of views and it has stood the golfing test of time.

Borth & Ynyslas

Set in a spectacular location on the sweep of Cardigan Bay Borth and Ynyslas Golf Club was established in 1885 and is reputedly the oldest course in Wales. This traditional links course which was redesigned by Harry S Colt in 1947, provides a great test of golf all year round as one would expect of a Golf Union of Wales championship venue. A round of golf at Borth and Ynyslas is a truly memorable experience and many visitors consider the course unique among the other fine links courses in Wales. Ranked 14th in the 2020 National Club Golfer Top 100 courses in Wales
